The Republicans have used words quite effectively against Democrats for some time now. Everyone other than a neo-con is branded a "liberal" or some variant, like "libturd." It's time to start turning the war of words.
Let's call the billionaire backed Fox-Republican officials and politicians a name that befits them. Let's call them fops. Yes, just for fun, let's start a new acronym today!
Fops are the self-righteous group of Republicans led by the thuggish turdblossom Karl Rove. They are a Rovian gang of greedy, incompetent, and corrupt officials and politicians who are nothing more than the faintest shadows of real life thinking, caring human beings.
And while we're at it, what the heck, let's get really crazy. Let's invent another one: the GBGR, or gay-bashing gay Republicans.
Please vote for which one you like best or "write in" your own new acronym. Would love to hear YOUR words.
So let's talk about Fox-Republican officials and politicians. What they are. What makes them tick. What are their strengths? Their weaknesses?
Let's start with the hard one. The strengths of fops. Um, where do I start? Hmmmm . . . . They are really good at smearing people and other dirty political tricks? Wait a second, that's not a strength, just a way to get bad politicians elected!
Oh well, we tried. Onto the weaknesses of fops and what they are all about.
For fops, what matters above all is politics . . . for personal gain. For fops, it's all about getting the most out of our government . . . for themselves. For fops, it's the Attorney General of the United States . . . President (and his Fox Republican White House Chief Political Advisor Rove of course).
For fops, it's not about working together, even in times of war, natural disaster or national crisis. For fops, the goal is to denigrate Democrats until they are marginalized forever. For fops, any means to that goal is justified, and lies, hypocrisy and dirty tricks are their bread and butter.
Anything fops accuse the Democrats of, they do far far more of. Fops demonize Soros for secretly allocating huge resources to support the Democratic party in sneaky ways. And yet they have their lynchpin billionaire backer Murdoch supplying them with a whole national "fair and balanced" TV Network as their personal PR machine. Many of us have seen the political studies which prove that Fox turns districts in which it airs 2 or 3 points to the right, just enough to put Bush in office in 2000. And just enough to keep him in despite his being possibly the worst, most lying, most lawless President in our entire history.
And the lies, oh the lies of the fops:
Whether it's Bush getting himself reelected by falsely defending the Patriot Act saying it takes a warrant to spy on Americans.
Whether it's the whole bunch of fops in the White House saying through their spokesperson that they knew nothing about who outed CIA agent Valerie Plame when all of them were right in the middle of it!
Whether it's the Bushie fops selling their souls by making up horrible race-baiting smears to run over John McCain in the 2000 South Carolina Primary.
Whether it's the fops selling their souls again to secretly fund the Swifties to smear another veteran opponent's honorable service record to win the 2004 election.
Whether it's Fox falsely calling itself "fair and balanced" when directs its "news" staff to parrot daily hit job memos aimed at Democrats and calls a Presidential election in 2000 for Republicans with admittedly no basis at all.
Whether it's the fops hiding a historically unprecedented number of records. In fact, fops denied 75% of Freedom of Information Act requests on self-serving "secrecy" grounds versus just over 50% for the prior Administration. These are the buried fop records that would show that Bush's father got him into the guard to avoid service, Bush's service record contains improper gaps, Bush personally ordered the US Attorney purge, Bush authorized outing Valerie Plame, Bush authorized torture, Bush knew his WMD claims and claims of evidence of al Qaeda being connected to Iraq were gross overstatements at best, and so on and so on and so on.
Or whether it's the golden oldies, like tax cuts paying for themselves, or like the current fiscally irresponsible tax cut has no consequences, as in all that money our government, i.e. we, have to pay back to China and our other lenders.
Now add to that the fop politicians' historically unrivaled pattern of appointing their totally unqualified crony hack officials to the highest positions of government. This is compounded by their declaration that the Executive, only after they have occupied it of course, is now "Unitary." "Unitary" is a fancy word for a fop dictatorship. This is followed by fop gross incompetence and often lawbreaking, ending in failures involving the loss of US prestige, money and lives.
Here is just some of the fop lawbreaking we know about so far:
- Illegal warrantless spying on Americas. Gonzales even recently admitted their program did not "strictly" comply with the rule of law. Yup, it's a felony under FISA.
- Torture. Gonzales signed off on the memos that provided legal cover for this blatant violation of the Geneva Convention and Uniform Military Code of Justice.
- Outing a CIA agent. We all know the White House lied through its teeth that they all were not involved when every single one of them was knee deep in it. We all know they did it as payback. We all know she was a covert agent.
- Purging prosecutors for not witchhunting Dems or turning a blind eye to crooked Repubs. It's called obstruction of justice. Despite all the deleted, oops I mean lost, records, there is more than enough proof they were all in it up to their eyeballs.
- Stealing and misusing government funds. So far just the former White House Chief Procurement officer was caught and convicted. But Halliburton Cheney should not be far behind.
- Lying us into the war. Put aside what now all but the die-hard right-wing nuts know was shameless demagoguery to rush us into war, there is increasing evidence that the President and his Vice President flat out lied to us.
The fops will make a mountain out of a mole hill when it comes to any Democratic indiscretion. Fops, for example, would have used any one of the above incidents of lawbreaking to try to take down a Democratic Administration. Yet to them, where fops themselves are involved, these are minor errors. These are the fops.
In many ways, fops lawbreaking reflects a long-held tradition of their Republican Administration predecessors:
Nixon - just the word is enough to conjure up images of massive government corruption and lawbreaking for political gain. Only God knows the laws Nixon broke because another Republican President pardoned Nixon before there could be a trial. Nixon took a lot of it to his grave. A deep grave indeed.
Ford - pardoned Nixon because, as he admitted to Woodward in 2005, they were friends, i.e. cronyism. After a brief period of initial outrage, all we hear from the media is how America believes that burying the Nixon scandal was "healing." Hmmm. Maybe if we had seen the full ugly extent of it we would be less tolerant of it now.
Reagan - had a record shattering 29 convicted criminals in his Administration.
Bush Sr. - pardoned Cap Weinberger and 5 others implicated in the Iran-Contra scandal who had testified under oath that Bush Sr. himself was involved.
Bush Jr. - all of the Nixon-level corruption described in the items above, with 2 convicted criminals in his Administration and counting.
All this lawbreaking has culminated in the modern-day fop. (As an aside, not one single member of a Democratic Administration since Clinton has been convicted of a crime and thus there has been no Democratic cycle of one Administration's crimes followed by their pardon by the next).
And in some ways the fops have broken new ground, as in the prevalence of chickenhawks at the top and in their ranks. By and large, this effete group doesn't know the first thing about war. Never experienced it. Doesn't want to. Would rather let someone else's kid fight. But if a war gets them the votes, what the heck?
Here are some web definitions of the word fop. It's a bit counterintuitive since Bush fancies himself an ordinary guy, but in reality he is all hat and no cattle. He's a fop in a cowboy getup. Here are the definitions:
dandy: a man who is much concerned with his dress and appearance
wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn
The fop is a stock character who appears from time to time in fiction. He is a person who makes a habit of fastidiously overdressing and putting on airs, aspiring to be viewed as an aristocrat. In English, the word fop is older, but the meaning of an overdressed, frivolously fastidious man may not be; Shakespeare's King Lear contains the word, in the general sense of a fool. Osric in Hamlet has a great deal of the manner.

Another advantage of the term fops is that it refers to politicians and officials, and not supporters. When posting on neutral boards it is respectful to Republican posters and does not violate terms of service. Though some may interpret it that way, the term is not intended to mean the "foolish old party" or "felonious old party" or, in a recursive acronym (like GNU) the "fop old party." An intended variant, however, is the noun form: the fop or FOP as in the "Fox-Republican Old Party" as a replacement for the GOP. The G in the GOP has become obsolete.
PS Here is another acronym applicable to certain gay Republicans: the GBGR, or gay-bashing gay Republicans. This group of self-loathing souls also deserves its own acronym. Where is Ken Melhman these days anyway?
